How to Make a Simple Daily Self-Care Routine

How to Make a Simple Daily Self-Care Routine

This summer brought unprecedented changes to the workplace and our homes, making it difficult to find peace and solitude. Despite these daily challenges, one thing should always remain the same: self-care. Self-care not only relieves stress but it allows your mind to take a mental vacation (while a physical one may be out of reach) from present-day problems. As a mother of two and a businesswoman, I juggle several responsibilities with my own mental wellbeing. Luckily, this simple self-care routine has allowed me to focus on myself without sacrificing my busy schedule.

Start Your Day with an Intention

Your words have power. As soon as you wake up, sum up your intentions for the day in a few words. If you’re struggling with a specific issue, center your words around overcoming this obstacle. This practice allows you to set the tone for the day you want to have.

Express Gratitude

I find this practice particularly tricky at times, especially after watching the news. However, it’s quite easy to think of 5 things we are grateful for in life. Perhaps it’s your loved ones or your favorite shirt, or even the takeout you ordered a few nights ago. Remember how blessed you are! Regardless of the current situation, be grateful for what you have and reflect on what brings you joy. These thoughts will remind you to smile.

Schedule Alone time

Me-time is essential for checking in with yourself and your needs. Use this time to get active and move your body. Take a walk, do some yoga, maybe even go for a bike ride. While getting in tune with your body, turn off your phone and other electronics. This is ‘you’ time. For me, scheduling alone time works best early in the morning, but choose a time of day where you can devote an hour to yourself.

Have an at-home spa day

After a long day of work, unwind with a warm bath or shower. Play some of your favorite songs and moisturize your skin with a soothing cream. A personal favorite of mine is our antioxidant body cream, perfect for a nighttime skin routine.

Reflect on Your Day

Take out a notebook, and jot down your thoughts on the day. Whether my day was busy or uneventful, I find that journaling is a great practice to release tension and stress. Better yet, reading past journal entries allows me to see how far I’ve come.

Shea Radiance

Everyone's self-care routine is different, but if you're looking start to one of your own, try incorporating 1 or 2 aspects of this simple regimen. When making your own routine, remember to do what comes naturally. You know your body better than anyone else, especially when you’re stressed. Surround yourself with things that spark joy and remember to focus on the positive as you enter a new day.
