Multitasking used to feel like a superpower—until it became exhausting. Here, Funlayo shares why narrowing her focus after 60 has unlocked more peace, genius, and fulfillment, and how you can gently shift into a season of intentional, spacious living.
I used to wear my multitasking skills like a badge of honor. There was a time when handling ten things at once — motherhood, marriage, business, community — made me feel unstoppable. But stepping into my 60s, I’ve discovered a quiet truth: what once energized me can now drain me.
Multitasking isn’t my superpower anymore — focus is.
These days, trying to do it all doesn’t fuel me like it once did. Juggling endless tasks only scatters my energy and leaves my creative mind stuck in overwhelm. My body, my spirit, and yes — wisdom — are teaching me to listen. When the pace feels frantic, it’s often my body’s gentle nudge that it’s time to narrow down and focus.
I don’t see this shift as losing capacity. I see it as gaining clarity. The truth is, we’re not meant to do everything, forever. As we evolve, we’re invited to move closer to our zone of genius — the work, relationships, and ideas that only we can nurture into the world.
Years ago, I could update my website, create graphics, run operations, lead strategy — all before lunch. Now, even though I can, I ask: Should I?
The more I honor my true strengths, the more freedom I create — not just for myself, but for my team and my community. Delegating the details gives me back the energy to lead, dream, and create at my highest level.
One unexpected teacher in all this? My yoga mat. When I step onto it, there’s no space for distraction. Yoga invites my mind to slow down, my breath to deepen, and my thoughts to quiet. It reminds me that being fully present with one thing is more powerful than being scattered across twenty.
This season is teaching me that narrowing my focus isn’t a loss — it’s a gift. It’s the path to doing less, better. To showing up for what matters most — with my mind clear, my heart open, and my spirit strong.
If you’ve found yourself trying to do everything, maybe this is your invitation too — to pause, listen, and ask: What’s truly worth your energy now? And who can help carry the rest?
💛 Funlayo
P.S. My daily skin ritual keeps me grounded when my mind wants to race. Just like yoga brings me back to my breath, our Restorative Hydrating Lotion reminds me to slow down, care for my skin, and protect my peace.
