The Power of Self Care for the Hardworking Woman

The Power of Self Care for the Hardworking Woman

Fact: You work hard. Between deadlines at work, caring for your family and being active in your community, you barely get a minute to yourself these days.

But, here’s the thing – even with so many things vying for your attention daily, self-care is a non-negotiable!

As we enter Women’s Health Week, we here at Shea Radiance want to remind
you to take care of yourself today and everyday.

Here are 3 tips you can easily implement into your self-care routine. Let’s get into it!
1. Take a Deep Breath
Try this right now:  Unclench your jaw and release the tension in your brow. Now, breathe in and breathe out. Don’t you feel a lot better? What you just experienced is a small taste of the benefits of meditation. Just a few moments of focused meditation can help you reduce anxiety and stress, improve your quality of sleep and help manage symptoms of conditions like depression, headaches, high blood pressure and chronic pain.

In fact, World Meditation Day is May 25th. Challenge yourself to meditate for 10 minutes each day leading up to that day. You’d be surprised what a few minutes of calm will do!

2. Get Some Sun (Safely)
Just like plants, sunlight is essential to human health. In addition to providing much-needed Vitamin D, strengthening our bones and lowering blood pressure, getting some sun just feels plain good! Exposure to natural light has been linked to improved mental health because it increases levels of serotonin in the body. It’s not in your head when you may feel down on grayer days! You could be missing the mood boost we get from sunlight. Now, be sure to enjoy the sun safely. Even more melanated folks can damage skin with too much sun exposure.

National “Don’t Fry Day” on May 27th is a community reminder to apply
sunscreen before stepping out in the summer sun: be sure to protect your skin from UV rays with a sunscreen rated SPF 30 or higher. If you forgot your sunscreen and are dealing with the effects of sunburn, try our Whipped Shea
Butter with Colloidal Oatmeal
. Our unrefined shea is packed with nutrients that speed skin healing and colloidal oatmeal will soothe any pesky itching.

3. Treat Yourself
Receiving a thoughtful gift has probably put a smile on your face a few times. Now, what if you could access the joy you feel from getting a gift more often?
Psst … you can! Sending a gift to yourself can have the same effect of brightening your day. And it doesn’t have to be expensive or extravagant either. A token of appreciation for yourself can be the reminder you need that you are worth celebrating. Take a look at our African Black Soap Bath Set or Mini Travel Set + Gift Bag for your next self-gifting moment. Being a radiant woman is about more than showing up for your family and community. It starts with honoring and taking care of yourself.

Try meditation, time outside or getting yourself something special as part of your self-care practices this season.
